The Family Man was a big OTT success that won several accolades for its lead cast, Manoj Bajpayee and Priyamani and also for directors Raj and DK. With the announcement of the second season that is set to release on June 4, fans were stoked to have the spy drama back on OTT. Samantha Akkineni joins the second season and according to the trailer, is playing a suicide bomber.
But that’s not all, the trailer despite a lot of praise, faced some backlash as Eelam Tamils and many people from the state expressed disappointment at the portrayal of Tamilians in the show. The TN Minister of Information and Broadcast even wrote to the Union Minister seeking a ban on the show for hurting sentiments of the people.
This led the makers to issue a statement that revealed that there is nothing hurtful for anyone and one must wait to watch the show before making a judgement on the content based on a trailer.
Samantha Akkineni was also vocal about this because it was her character that people commented on. She shared a clarification on the same but soon the OTT platform that is releasing the show issued a gag order to her, instructing her to avoid speaking about the controversy at all.
The order was only passed to avoid any further controversy and have people wait for the show to make up their minds.
They issued a statement, “…would like to avoid controversies prior to the release of their venture. The gag order to refrain from speaking about the show is exactly that, so the audience feeling and sentiments that have been hurt can be assuaged.”
